MARY (MAE) HELEN BOLLES SEMMENS (#2310)
Mae Bolles Semmens passed away on 31 March 1998 in Hamilton, Montana. She was 97
years old, born on 19 September 1900 in Missoula, Montana. Mae was the last of her
immediate family of four brothers and one sister.
She married at Hamilton, 11 September 1920, Percy Semmens who died January 1961 in
Hamilton. Her father, George Nelson Bolles (1864-1944) (#1757) was a blacksmith in Victor MT. She spent
most of her life in the Bitterroot Valley.
Her daughter Helen Frances Semmens Madeen of Hamilton along with grandchildren and great
grandchildren survives her.
Mae mother's, Mary Maria Duffy, family was one of the first into the Bitterroot valley. Her
grandmother, Maria Morton Duffy, recalled seeing Chief Joseph's band passing by Fort Owen
near Stevensville in 1877 on their famous journey with the U.S. Army in pursuit. She stated that
the tribal members were all dressed up in their finest head dresses and regalia.
